2. Computer Assembly and Disassembly
ASSEMBLING A COMPUTER (STEP-BY-STEP)
A. Tools Required

Work on a clean, dry surface.

Avoid touching component circuits.

C. Steps in Assembling a Computer
Step 1: Install the Power Supply Unit

Place the power supply in the system unit.

Screw it firmly into position.
Step 2: Install the Motherboard
-
Fix spacers (standoffs) inside the case.
-
Place the motherboard on the spacers.
-
Screw the motherboard securely.
Step 3: Install the CPU
-
Open the CPU socket lever.
-
Align the CPU correctly with the socket.
-
Place it gently and lock the lever.
Step 4: Install the RAM
-
Open the RAM slot clips.
-
Align the RAM notch with the slot.
-
Press firmly until the clips lock.
Step 5: Install Storage Devices
-
Insert the hard disk or SSD into the drive bay.
-
Screw it in place.
-
Connect power and data cables.
Step 6: Install Expansion Cards
-
Insert cards (graphics, network) into the correct slots.
-
Screw them securely.
Step 7: Connect All Cables

Connect power cables to motherboard and drives.

Connect front-panel connectors (power button, USB).
-
Ensure cables are properly fitted.
Step 8: Close the System Unit

Replace the side panel.

Screw it firmly.
Step 9: Testing the Computer

Connect monitor, keyboard, and mouse.

DISASSEMBLING A COMPUTER (STEP-BY-STEP)
A. Tools Required

Screwdriver

Anti-static wrist strap (if available)

Clean, flat working surface
B. Safety Precautions

Shut down the computer properly.

Switch off the power supply and unplug the power cable.
-
Disconnect all external devices (monitor, keyboard, mouse, USB devices).
-
Wear an anti-static wrist strap or touch a metal surface to remove static electricity.
C. Steps in Disassembling a Computer
Step 1: Open the System Unit

Place the system unit on a table.
-
Remove screws at the back of the case.
-
Slide or lift off the side panel.
Step 2: Disconnect Internal Cables
-
Disconnect power cables from the motherboard.
-
Disconnect data cables from the hard disk and optical drive.
-
Remove front-panel connectors carefully.
Step 3: Remove Expansion Cards
-
Unscrew expansion cards (graphics card, network card).
-
Gently pull them out of their slots.
Step 4: Remove Storage Devices

Unscrew the hard disk or SSD.
-
Slide it out of the drive bay.
-
Do the same for the optical drive if present.
Step 5: Remove RAM

Push the clips on both sides of the RAM slot outward.

Lift the RAM module straight out.
Step 6: Remove Power Supply Unit (PSU)

Unscrew the power supply at the back of the case.

Carefully lift it out.
Step 7: Remove CPU and Motherboard

Unlock the CPU socket lever.

Lift the CPU carefully and store it safely.

Unscrew the motherboard and remove it from the case.
