ASSEMBLING A COMPUTER (STEP-BY-STEP)

A. Tools Required

  • Screwdriver

  • Anti-static wrist strap

  • Computer components


B. Safety Precautions

  1. Work on a clean, dry surface.

  2. Avoid touching component circuits.

  3. Handle components gently.


C. Steps in Assembling a Computer

Step 1: Install the Power Supply Unit

  1. Place the power supply in the system unit.

  2. Screw it firmly into position.


Step 2: Install the Motherboard

  1. Fix spacers (standoffs) inside the case.

  2. Place the motherboard on the spacers.

  3. Screw the motherboard securely.


Step 3: Install the CPU

  1. Open the CPU socket lever.

  2. Align the CPU correctly with the socket.

  3. Place it gently and lock the lever.


Step 4: Install the RAM

  1. Open the RAM slot clips.

  2. Align the RAM notch with the slot.

  3. Press firmly until the clips lock.


Step 5: Install Storage Devices

  1. Insert the hard disk or SSD into the drive bay.

  2. Screw it in place.

  3. Connect power and data cables.


Step 6: Install Expansion Cards

  1. Insert cards (graphics, network) into the correct slots.

  2. Screw them securely.


Step 7: Connect All Cables

  1. Connect power cables to motherboard and drives.

  2. Connect front-panel connectors (power button, USB).

  3. Ensure cables are properly fitted.


Step 8: Close the System Unit

  1. Replace the side panel.

  2. Screw it firmly.


Step 9: Testing the Computer

  1. Connect monitor, keyboard, and mouse.

  2. Plug in power cable.

  3. Switch on the computer.

  4. Check if the system boots correctly

DISASSEMBLING A COMPUTER (STEP-BY-STEP)

A. Tools Required

  • Screwdriver

  • Anti-static wrist strap (if available)

  • Clean, flat working surface


B. Safety Precautions

  1. Shut down the computer properly.

  2. Switch off the power supply and unplug the power cable.

  3. Disconnect all external devices (monitor, keyboard, mouse, USB devices).

  4. Wear an anti-static wrist strap or touch a metal surface to remove static electricity.


C. Steps in Disassembling a Computer

Step 1: Open the System Unit

  1. Place the system unit on a table.

  2. Remove screws at the back of the case.

  3. Slide or lift off the side panel.


Step 2: Disconnect Internal Cables

  1. Disconnect power cables from the motherboard.

  2. Disconnect data cables from the hard disk and optical drive.

  3. Remove front-panel connectors carefully.


Step 3: Remove Expansion Cards

  1. Unscrew expansion cards (graphics card, network card).

  2. Gently pull them out of their slots.


Step 4: Remove Storage Devices

  1. Unscrew the hard disk or SSD.

  2. Slide it out of the drive bay.

  3. Do the same for the optical drive if present.


Step 5: Remove RAM

  1. Push the clips on both sides of the RAM slot outward.

  2. Lift the RAM module straight out.


Step 6: Remove Power Supply Unit (PSU)

  1. Unscrew the power supply at the back of the case.

  2. Carefully lift it out.


Step 7: Remove CPU and Motherboard

  1. Unlock the CPU socket lever.

  2. Lift the CPU carefully and store it safely.

  3. Unscrew the motherboard and remove it from the case.
